But not an average man at all. Though many of the ridgerunner's feats are of heroic proportions, the author is so impartial and exhaustive, that you meet the ridgerunner's biography, rather than his legend.

I found the book captivating. The author made a thorough research, shaping out of it a very well structured and entertaining narrative/5(22). Story of a loner who took to the woods to find solace after a difficult start in life. The Ridgerunner managed to eek out a life in some of the most difficult terrain in the PNW.

A slow read that sometimes gets bogged down in the details, then rewards you with snippets of this loners fascinating life/5. I chose this book because the author is local and I happened to find a copy somewhere.

What I liked: I can't get enough of reading about the "Greatest Generation" of World War II and figuring out what made these people tick.

- Norten Dablemont, who has passed away since the book was published, had an indisputably interesting life/5. Ridgerunner is a well-oiled, perfectly crafted shotgun of a novel, one that delivers just as much heart as it does gunpowder.

No one else working today can showcase so much humanity in such dark places. It's a genuine thrill to see what Barnes can do with twenty-six letters and a Pages: Ridgerunner is brutal, satisfying, and left me looking forward to his next book.".

-Samuel W. Gailey, author of Deep Winter "Jim Burke says he works the pages till, when you pick them up, they crackle in your hand.

That's Rusty Barnes' Ridgerunner. From the first line it crackles: it's alive, moving about.
